Petition To my Gov. Chris Christie:
Whereas: Brian Aitken of New Jersey has been sentenced to 7 years in prison simply for legally possessing firearms; and,
Whereas: Mr. Aitken followed the letter of New Jersey and Federal law firearms law; and,
Whereas: During Mr. Aitken’s prosecution, the Judge did not allow the jury to be informed that new Jersey law allows for the safe transportation of a handgun from between residences and that Federal law protects gun owners transporting firearms between residences from malicious prosecution by state and local governments, disregarding Mr. Aitken’s right to a fair trial; and,
Whereas: Mr. Aitken received a sentence equal to that of someone convicted of assault, though he never harmed or even threatened a single person; and,
Whereas: Mr. Aitken’s civil rights, as protected by the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, have been violated by the judicial system of the state of New Jersey.
Therefore: We request a full, executive pardon for Mr. Brian Aitken from Chris Christie, Governor of the State of New Jersey, and that all legal expenses incurred by Mr. Aitken be paid for by the State of New Jersey.
Further: As firearm restrictions in the State of New Jersey far exceed those of federal law, we request that you immediately and publicly call for the repeal of New Jersey’s current law requiring a permit to own a firearm.
