3:25 PM UPDATE: This bill has passed the Rules Committee and is on it's way to the Full House.
Please scroll to the bottom for a list of key swing lawmakers.

March 10, 2014

Thanks to constant pressure from NAGR members and supporters like you, the State Senate passed SB-613, the Second Amendment Preservation Act last month.

This hallmark pro-gun bill will help protect gun owners in Missouri from Barack Obama's anti-gun agenda and unconstitutional federal gun control.

The bill could come before the full House very soon.

Will lawmakers in the House stall the bill?

I hope not.

But after the shenanigans in the State Senate from last month, gun owners must remain vigilant if this bill is to pass.

A lot has happened in the last few weeks.

Let me update you:

First, your pressure has had an impact in the House
.

When we alerted you to the State Representatives who've been squishy on this bill in the past, one Representative, Donna Lichtenegger (R-Jackson), lashed out at NAGR.

You see, she told the media in September that "the bill needs to be tweaked" in reference to last years version, but when we told you that she may be a possible swing vote she was outraged.

"I have no concerns with this year’s SB-613 and I will once again vote YES," she stated in an email to NAGR.

I do hope she sticks to that story on both the vote AND the override.

That's because there's virtually no room to spare.

Anti-gun Governor Jay Nixon is forcing vacant legislative seats to remain unfilled because he's worried you'll send in more pro-gun lawmakers.

So passing SB-613 with the support necessary to override his veto is not a sure thing. Every vote counts.

Second, the radical anti-gunners have introduced their bills.

One of their bills, HB-1940, attacks your self-defense rights and would impose a duty to retreat if you're attacked.

Another bill, HB-1903, is a thinly-veiled gun confiscation scheme operating under the ruse of "mental health."

Yes, these anti-gun bills are atrocious.

But I'm worried some lawmakers who don't want to talk about the Second Amendment Preservation Act are going to use anti-gun bills like these as a distraction.

If the supposedly "pro-gun" super majority is really interested standing up for your right to keep-and-bear arms, they should have no trouble killing these anti-gun bills.

They should also have no trouble keeping their eye on the ball by quickly passing the Second Amendment Preservation Act.

But they might not want to do that.

Last week, House lawmakers shuffled the Second Amendment Preservation Act from one committee to another.

It's currently in the House Rules Committee.

That's why I need your help.

Can you please contact the House Rules Committee Chair, Representative Jeanie Riddle (R-Mokane)?

Her phone number is
573-751-5226 and her email is Jeanie.Riddle@house.mo.gov.

Urge her to pass SB-613 out of her committee, with no amendments to weaken it, so it can be heard on the House Floor right away.

When you're done, please contact the following possible swing votes on SB-613 in the House:
